People with physical disabilities are among the most marginalized groups in Western society. Most able-bodied people have grown up without a strong connection to anyone who is physically disabled. This lack of familiarity can lead to fear and indifference.
Bionic taught in 34 schools in its first school year, reaching more than 10,000 students. Bionic takes an interdisciplinary approach to anti-bias teaching. A full-day school program includes an assembly presentation, classroom sessions, and adaptive sports clinics.Students K-12 become familiar with assistive technology, person-first language, and being an ally.
