Help Nicky raise money

On Thursday, October 23rd, I will be participating in the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation Night Light Walk.

Together with friends, family and neighbours, we will walk 3K through the streets of the community. It will start at Realtor Park where we will gather to hear inspiring stories before we head out to walk a lantern-lit route lighting the way for women and children experiencing intimate partner violence in our community.

Every step we will take is for the women and children who have faced the devastating reality of intimate partner violence — for those who have endured fear in place of safety, and silence in place of support.

Far too often, survivors carry not only the scars of abuse but the heavy burden of shame and stigma. This must change.The truth is, there is no shame in surviving. There is only strength. It takes incredible courage to leave an abusive situation, to seek help, and to start over. The individuals who do so are not victims — they are warriors. And they deserve a community that not only stands behind them, but walks beside them too.

That’s why organizations like Hiatus House are so vital. They provide shelter, safety, counselling, and hope to those fleeing violence. But they can’t do it alone. They need us — all of us — to step up, speak out, and support.
