About IDA Arizona

IDA Arizona is an affiliated branch of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), the oldest organization dedicated to the study and treatment of dyslexia. For more than 75 years, IDA has been a trusted source of research-based knowledge — educating families and teachers, and shaping the policies and practices needed for effective reading instruction.

Carrying that mission forward, IDA Arizona serves dyslexic learners, families, and educators statewide through resources, advocacy, and training.

Our vision is clear: Structured Literacy in Every Classroom. Because when teachers are equipped with the knowledge and skills to teach reading effectively, students succeed.

Why Your Gift Matters

• Dyslexia is common and misunderstood. 1 in 5 people (20% of the population) are affected, making it the leading cause of reading and spelling difficulties. Yet many go undiagnosed and unsupported.
• It’s not about intelligence, it’s about instruction. Dyslexia reflects how the brain processes language, not a lack of ability. With evidence-based instruction, struggling readers can thrive.
• The ripple effect is vast. Up to 80% of students with a specific learning disability struggle with reading.
• Arizona’s literacy crisis demands action. In 2022, 69% of 4th graders and 72% of 8th graders read below proficiency (NAEP). Without effective instruction, too many children are left behind.
• Structured Literacy changes lives. Explicit, systematic reading instruction empowers all students — especially dyslexic learners — to become confident, lifelong readers.
