A message from the organizers:
Between Friends provides quality social, recreation, and development opportunities so that people with disabilities can connect, grow, and belong.
At Between Friends, we believe deeply in the power of connection and community—which is why we’re thrilled about the opportunity to collaborate with Girls Who Like to Do Things on a fun run that celebrates inclusion, movement, and friendship.
This partnership presents an exciting chance to further our mission of providing inclusive social and recreational opportunities for individuals with disabilities, while also bringing together a vibrant community of people who just love doing things—especially together.
At the heart of Between Friends' work is the recognition of how essential recreation and social experiences are to the well-being of people with disabilities. Many individuals face barriers to social interaction, often resulting in isolation. Our programs provide a safe and supportive environment where individuals can build friendships, grow their confidence, and have fun in spaces where they are truly included.
By creating events where people of all abilities can participate side-by-side, we’re not only promoting inclusion—we're fostering a culture of acceptance and mutual understanding in the broader community. For over 40 years, Between Friends has offered diverse programs that empower individuals with disabilities to lead meaningful lives, filled with opportunity, joy, and connection.
As the only agency in Calgary and Red Deer solely dedicated to social, recreational, and developmental opportunities for people with disabilities, Between Friends plays a vital role in building a more inclusive world—one friendship at a time.
Partnering with Girls Who Like to Do Things for a community fun run is a natural extension of that mission. Together, we can raise awareness, build new connections, and generate essential support to ensure that inclusive fun continues to flourish for everyone involved.
We’d love to run this journey together.
While being brought to you by students, Girls Who Like To Do Things is open to everyone: student or not! If you are interested in our club and attending an event, you can officially consider yourself a Girl Who Likes To Do Things.
Girls Who Like To Do Things is an event-centered social club that aims to empower women by creating fun, supportive spaces to make friends and try new things!
From rock climbing to painting to movie nights (and everything in between), our mission is to foster community on campus and encourage women to explore their interests. With diverse activities, Girls Who Like To Do Things provides opportunities for members to step outside their comfort zones, build confidence, and form meaningful connections.
All women, femme, non-binary individuals, and those comfortable in women-led spaces are welcome to join us in celebrating the joy of trying new things!
