I’m Swimming the Harbour (Again!) — Support the United Way with Me!

On Thursday, September 4 at 11:30 a.m., I’ll be diving back into Halifax Harbour for a cause that means a lot to me — the United Way.

Since 2018, I've been swimming from Dartmouth to Halifax, and I’m proud to be doing it this year as part of Team Build Nova Scotia. Every year has been different - 2018 in particular, the water was quite dynamic and warm and last year was extremely cold and flat. One year I swam by a Canadian frigate with the crew cheering on deck. Last year, I saw a seal, which was disturbing. 

We’re also marking a special milestone — the 15th Anniversary of the Halifax Harbour Swim! That’s 15 years of splashes, smiles, and support for those in need across our province.

I’m especially excited that David Benoit, President and CEO of Build Nova Scotia, is leading this year’s campaign. Many of you may know David as a longtime supporter out on the water, helping keep swimmers safe — now he’s guiding the whole campaign. And a big shout-out to Joanne Munro and the Service Nova Scotia team for their outstanding leadership of last year’s success.

This isn’t just a swim. It’s a way to raise vital funds for the United Way, supporting people in our communities who are facing real challenges — housing insecurity, poverty, food access, and more. Every dollar raised goes toward creating brighter futures right here at home.
