Get ready for an adrenaline-pumping extravaganza like no other! Join us on Thursday, August 21, as we celebrate the 17th anniversary of the Strong Kids Duathlon – the most beloved event of the summer, proudly presented by the YMCA Northumberland!
The Strong Kids Duathlon is not just a race. YMCA Northumberland's Strong Kids Duathlon raises funds for the essential Mothers of Newborns program. This invaluable, free program offers new mothers and their babies a safe and supportive path to health and wellness. It promotes physical activity and builds a vital network of support during baby's critical first year.
This family-friendly, child duathlon is attended and sponsored by many Northumberland families and businesses, bringing together like-minded community supporters to celebrate our children and youth while raising awareness and funds for the Mothers of Newborns program.
Come and be a part of this empowering celebration, full of fun and emotions, as we unite to make a difference in the lives of many!
EVENT DETAILS
- Kids ages 3-15 can participate in this friendly, competitive event while family, friends, volunteers and YMCA staff cheer them on.
- Check-in starts at 5:00pm; first race at 5:45pm; Over by 8:00pm.
- Swim in Centennial Pool.
- Run through Victoria Park.
- Six different age groups, each with their own event start time and distance:
- Under 3 years
- 4-5 years
- 6-7 years
- 8-9 years
- 10-11 years
- 12+ years
YMCA Membership is not required - any child aged 3 to 15 years can register and participate in this event.
For our 17th year, our participation fee is $17 per child (+ processing fees), plus we are offering one-of-a-kind towels to each participant for an additional $17(+tax) per towel.
The Strong Kids Duathlon is not just an event; it's a symbol of hope, unity, and the power of community. Don't miss out on this memorable day – see you at the starting line on August 21!

Each young athlete can wrap themselves in this special keepsake and celebrate their accomplishment with our soft, absorbent and high-quality commemorative Dri-lite Microfiber Terry 22x44in Towels.
Thanks to PJs Custom Outfitting and YMCA Northumberland, every child participant can take one home for $17+tax.
You will be prompted to purchase this product after the registration process.
PARKING INFORMATION
- We recommend parking in the East Beach Parking Area (please see map below) as no payment is required after 4pm. There is also on-street parking and Town of Cobourg lots available with payment around the area.
