We are excited to announce that the Halifax Harness Hounds will be hosting an Introduction Clinic for Harness Dog Sports on Saturday, November 8th at 9:00am. It will take place at Long Lake Provincial Park located at 10 Dunbrack St (the main entrance).
We will teach you the basics of harness sports through canicross. We always start on our feet as this is the safest and easiest way to teach your dog new commands.
During the session you and your dog will learn how to communicate and begin working together as a team by practicing:
- starting and stopping
- speeding up and slowing down
- how to safely pass others without engaging
- how to anticipate and avoid distractions
- how to navigate directions
We will also learn how the gear works, discuss mileage building and safety practices while working with your dog in harness!
GEAR:
We will have gear on hand for teams to borrow during the session.
You will need:
1) A well fitting harness designed for harness dog sports
2) A canicross belt and bungee or a hands-free leash
2) A canicross belt and bungee or a hands-free leash
Properly fitting gear is very important. We have lots of gear on hand but we ask that you arrive with a back-clip harness in the off chance we do not have a harness that fits your dog or we have multiple dogs the same size. At the end of the class, we will show you how to measure your dog to ensure you are all set to get your own gear too!
COST:
45$ per person. Includes gear rental for the class, your class fee, & club yearly membership.
Registration fees
Prices are inclusive of mandatory charges, items, and fees
