My Story…
I'm running the BMO Half Marathon in spring 2025!
I was hit with a surprise lung cancer diagnosis in 2022 at age 37. As an athletic, healthy non-smoker with no family history, this came as a total shock.
I was fortunate to receive wonderful care from BC Cancer. I went through aggressive chemo and radiation, and had surgery to have half of one of my lungs removed. It was exceptionally hard at times — there were points where it took everything I had just to walk to the end of the block. Although the experience was very scary, I was always treated with diligence, kindness, compassion and humanity. I’m so grateful for the hard work of my medical team.
With a ton of support, I fought hard to get my life back. I trained for and ran a 10km race in Sept 2024, and have now set my sights on the half marathon. I can’t run quite as fast as I used to, but I’m amazed by what my body can still do! I’m so inspired by the countless people I know who have faced cancer with courage, humour, and determination. I’m running in support of the BC Cancer Foundation, hoping they can continue achieving the best possible outcomes for those affected by this terrible disease.
I deeply appreciate any contribution you can make, no matter the size.
