My Story…
I'm running in the 2025 Vancouver half-marathon this May. I'm late to the party as I only began endurance running in 2019 at age 49. I was born with severely clubbed feat and asthma, they told my parents I wouldn't be able to walk. Thankfully a (now-famous) doctor at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto was able to perform a cutting-edge surgery and I was able to lead a healthy life. Essentially for free; as my parents were both in theatre and Canada has free healthcare (for now). But I digress.
I still have asthma but have learned how to control it over time, and in the wake of my mother's sudden passing in 2019 I found myself driven to take my own cardio more seriously. In 2021 I ran my first half-marathon in Valencia and repeated that again this past fall in the Spanish city. This will be my first time running an in-person race in Vancouver while passing through Stanley Park, which has been a part of my life for 30 years.
I am raising funds for Doctors Without Borders and dedicate this run to my late mother Cathy McKeehan -- she wouldn't have believed I could run a 5k, let alone 21k. But, as she would say: "get on with it."
