My Story…
On May 3rd, Bennett will be running his first kids marathon! He will be participating with others at his sister Annie's school as a Kid of Steel and also running for a special organization that has touched our lives in profound ways--The UPMC Children's Hospital Foundation!
This foundation holds a special place in our hearts, as UPMC Children's Hospital has provided exceptional care and support for our family and loved ones during some challenging times. Their dedication to healing, innovation, and compassionate care has made an immeasurable difference, and we are honored to contribute to their mission.
To us, this race will be a tribute to the incredible doctors, nurses, and staff who have given so much, and to the children and families who continue to rely on their expertise. By raising awareness and funds, we hope to help ensure that every child receives the best possible care, just as our loved ones did.

As part of Team Children's, my participation in the 2023 Pittsburgh Marathon supports UPMC Children's Hospital Foundation.
Funds support the patients and families served by UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Last year UPMC Children's Hospital had over 1 million patient visits and many of the programs, initiatives, and resources that make UPMC Children’s so special are funded by philanthropic gifts. Things like distraction therapy which provides patients something else to focus on during their medical procedures, the Child Life Department which provides many activities to create a sense of normalcy for hospitalized children, and the Free Care Fund which covers the cost of medical care for those that cannot afford it. These areas are not covered by insurance, yet are critically important to helping families face the many challenges that accompany a child’s treatment.
