Help us raise money

In loving memory of my mom who passed away in October 2023 from liver cirrhosis, our team, Mona’s Angels, is running to raise funds for Liver Canada. 

My mom was the heart of our family—warm, inviting, and always ready to help those in need. She lovingly called my sisters and me her “angels,” and no matter what, she always showed up for the people she loved.  

In the year before she passed, my mom began experiencing symptoms of liver disease. Despite multiple doctor visits, her liver abnormalities went undiagnosed for far too long. It wasn’t until July 2023—when severe stomach pain sent her to the hospital—that she was finally diagnosed with end-stage liver disease. Just a few months later, we lost her.  

One of the hardest parts of her story is that she was a non-drinker, yet no clear cause was ever identified. We later learned that non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) runs in our family, something we only discovered after it was too late. Had we known sooner, things might have been different.  

Now, we run in her honor—to raise awareness, fund research, and support others facing similar battles. This race is our way of carrying on her legacy of love and care, ensuring no one else has to go through what she did.
