Soggy Bottom Cardboard Boat Regatta and Family Fun Day empowers fun loving, energetic, competitive, young people and even grown-ups, families, clubs, work groups and business people.
Anyone can get involved in the boat races and also help raise funds for local charities supporting young people facing challenges. Spend lots of fun times with your team creating your boat before the event then getting dressed up on race day.
Test your luck and paddling skills competing with others in your Division and try not to sink.
The boat and team with fastest time wins. Great prizes for winners and fundraising and even novelty awards.
For people not wanting to get wet there are many other fun events on shore for all members of the family to enjoy.
Boat Rules
- Do not use clear tape, tape must be coloured and easy to see as we are recycling all cardboard. We also want to be able to see the tape in the pool.
- All cardboard will be composted.
- Construct your boat with only cardboard boxes / tubes and tape.
- Use tape only for structural purposes such as seams or stress points.
- Don't use water proofing aids such as coated or waxed cardboard, paint or glue, or lots of tape.
- Don’t use metal fasteners such as screws, bolts, washers, staples.
- Be creative - enhance your fantastic boat design with colourful decorations using small amounts of tape, paint etc. (Prizes awarded).
Race Day Rules
- Registration essential - check website for details
- Each person with their boat must wear a Personal Flotation Device (PFD). Some PFD’s will be available for loan on the day.
- Respect other teams and their boats — both off and on the water.
- No purposeful sinking of other teams boats.
- Have fun!
Race Day Schedule
1. Division 1 Boats Check in: 9:00am – 10:00am, first race at 10.30am
2. Division 2 Boats Check in: 10:00am - 11:00am, first race at 11.30am
3. Division 3 Boats Check in: 11:00am - 12:00pm, first race at 12.30pm
4. Corporate Race Check in: 12:00pm - 1:00pm, first race at 1:30pm
5. Event conclusion: 3:00pm approx.
