In our 20 years since inception, Ride the Beaches has donated over $500,000 to charity. The owners and employees of Sharky’s as well as community members DONATE their time to this event. Every penny over cost is donated and NO ONE is paid for their time* preparing for or working at this event! THE FOOD: All riders will start the day with breakfast on the beach at Sharky’s. Breakfast will be fresh fruit, juice, bagels, bread or pastry, and coffee. All rest stops will be stocked with water, sports drink, fresh fruit, snacks (Shark Bites!!!) and/or sandwiches. Lunch will be served on the beach at Sharky’s. THE RIDE ROUTES**: As we all know, there was much damage after the storms and road conditions are changing weekly. At this point we cannot guarantee a specific route or mileage but will do our best to present a safe and acceptable route selection for our riders All our route descriptions are subject to change!! 🚴♂️ The LONGER route will follow the Medium route for the first half of the ride then may head out east toward the North Port Connector. From there you might head west again to pick up The Legacy Trail. We will ride the trail up to the next rest stop sponsored by The Friends of The Legacy Trail and then to Casey Key, more riding along the beach, ending at Sharky’s for lunch. 🚴♂️ The MEDIUM route may take you over the Intercoastal waterway on the Legacy Trail or low traffic neighborhood streets. You may head north for your rest stop and across the intercoastal waterway again for some lovely views! In some places you could be so close to the beach, you may have to watch for sand in the road with many beautiful vistas of the Gulf! You'll return to the restaurant on lower traffic roads to enjoy your lunch on the beach. 🚴♂️ The SHORTER route stays on the island of Venice. This ride is suitable for most anyone with a bike! You will ride south to Casperson Beach to access the Venetian Waterway trail. After riding the trail to the north side of Venice you will ride low traffic roads to the Venice Yacht Club for your rest stop. From there you will meander through residential side streets back to Sharky’s.
