West Oso Boys Cross Country Champions

From 1987 to 1990, the West Oso Boys Cross Country team dominated South Texas. West Oso High School achieved remarkable success, securing the State Championship title for three consecutive years: 1988, 1989, and 1990.

Under the dedicated leadership of Coach Ernesto Pruneda, the team not only reached the pinnacle of success but also learned the values of humility and perseverance. Coach Pruneda’s commitment and passion were instrumental in guiding the team to these historic victories.

The History Behind The Name

The name Oso Red Line was thought of by none other than Coach Pruneda. Our racing singlets had a Red Line with Oso in the middle. We won District 4 years in a row with a Perfect Score of 15! If you don't know what a Perfect Score is, it's where the team finishes 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Those places added up equals 15. But we didn't stop there, we also had 6th and 7th place from West Oso. We did this for 4 years in a row! The best any other runner could finish at District was 8th place. So he started calling us The Oso Red Line. We made it a goal to NOT let anyone break The Oso Red Line at District.

The West Oso Boys won 4 consecutive District Titles, 3 consecutive Regional Titles, and 3 consecutive State Titles between the years of 1987-1990.

The Oso Red Line Cross Country Invitational will be a competition open to high school athletes to test themselves in an early season opener.
