Our story…
Shelter Movers is a national, volunteer-powered charitable organization providing moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse. We collaborate with local businesses and community agencies to support people, primarily women and children, as they transition to a life free of violence. All donations raised through the Emera Blue Nose Marathon will be matched by East Coast Credit Union.
Description
Shelter Movers is the only service of its kind in Canada, operating in Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, South-Western Ontario, Calgary, Edmonton, Greater Moncton, Montreal and Nova Scotia. Over 2000+ volunteers across the country create a safe and empowering space for survivors of abuse to transition to a better life. Growing evidence suggests a significant long-term societal benefit when the cycle of violence is broken. Shelter Movers takes on the logistical, security and financial burden of moving and storing survivors’ belongings, allowing local social services (shelters, police and hospitals) to focus on their primary objectives. Since being established in 2016, we have completed over 6000 moves across Canada.
