My Story…
Seven years ago I began my personal journey with Parkinson's Disease. During the first four years I participated in four fundraising campaigns for Parkinson's, all in support of the Parkinson's Disease Research at The Ottawa Hospital.
Since then I have moved from Ottawa to Victoria, British Columbia and I have joined the Victoria-based Parkinson Wellness Projects (PWP) which runs a variety of exercise and support programs to help those with Parkinsons. I take part in a weekly Rock Steady Boxing as well as the PWP Art Display. My wife gives time as a volunteer at a fitness class and at Rock Steady Boxing.
The Douglas Mile is PWP’s largest fundraising event of the year. Held on Victoria Day, the Douglas Mile raises funds for programs and services that improve the quality of life for people with Parkinson’s and their families. PWP doesn’t charge any fees for their services, allowing barrier-free access to those who need it. They provide day-to-day mental and physical support and camaraderie. It is beneficial to a large number of Parkinson's people in the Victoria community.
Parkinson’s disease is the fastest growing neurological disease in the world and without PWP, those affected by Parkinson’s disease on Vancouver Island would have limited resources.
Since I am a beneficiary of this important hands-on approach of the Parkinson Wellness Projects I am joining in the PWP's annual "Douglas Mile" fundraising initiative. The walk takes place on Douglas Street at the front end of the Victoria Day Parade on May 19, 2025. Please help by making a tax-refundable contribution.
PWP is a registered charity that operates its facility and programs entirely through donations.
Thanks in advance for your support.
