We trust this correspondence finds you all fit and well and ready to tackle the
37th Pier to Perignon on Sunday 23rd February, 2025.
Please make sure you read this carefully so that all the requirements and that all information is fully understood.
GENERAL INFORMATION
We have chosen the time for the race based on the Peak for currents for the course. Perfect conditions for the challenge. It’s worth mentioning that the race start time is calculated to ensure competitors are swimming with the outgoing currents. Those times are based on the tide and stream calculations at Sorrento, not Port Phillip Heads, which is several kms further downstream. Tidal stream times are also different to tide times.
The swim and the periods leading up to and after it are to be conducted in a safe, friendly and sportsperson like manner. Any unsportsmanlike conduct or actions that compromise other patrons’ health and safety will be grounds for immediate disqualification. Decisions of the event officials are final and are not subject to appeal.

SAFETY DURING THE RACE – CRITICAL INFO
During the Swim, should you need assistance, simply raise your arm to signal one of the lifesavers from Portsea SLSC who will attend to you as quickly as possible.
- Please understand there are a lot of swimmers in the water at the same time, so the Water Safety personnel will need to be always mindful of other swimmers.
- Directions given by race marshals during the race are to be followed. Failure to follow directions may result in you being removed from the race and /or your finish data removed and a DNF being registered.
- Please be aware that water safety boards, IRBs etc are in the water with you and please ensure you heed the directions given especially at times of an emergency.
Use of additional methods to alert swimmers of a possible EMERGENCY.
All IRB’s (Inflatable Rescue Boats) will be equipped with HOOTERS.
If you hear a hooter whilst swimming, please do the following:
- Stop in a safe manner (being aware that there are other swimmers around you)
- Look for where the emergency is located and listen for directions:
- If required allow for rescue craft to enter your area
- If directed to exit the water, please do so immediately
- If the incident doesn’t require you to exit the water or is not near you and you can continue swimming without causing interference, then please do so but maintain vigilance.
- We hope to never have to use the hooters, but for everyone’s safety, we require your assistance. We thank you in advance if the race is disrupted due to this occurring, but we know that you will understand and fully support the reasons.

PARKING & SHUTTLE BUS - SORRENTO TO PORTSEA – RETURN via PORTSEA BACK BEACH CAR PARK
A reminder that parking around the registration/start area is extremely limited, and with the traffic for the car ferry it can quickly become congested. Sorrento Police and Mornington Peninsula Shire have parking officers in the area and will be targeting anyone in violation of posted parking signs, as well as anyone double parking and blocking traffic flow.
To avoid a costly fine, we would urge all competitors and spectators to:
- Avoid entering The Esplanade leading to Sorrento Pier and instead to park at PSLSC Back Beach Car Park and catch the shuttle bus service to the registration/start area.
- Arrange for someone to drop you off up near the Hotel Sorrento and then walk down to the pier.
To minimize wait time, we have moved to have 4 shuttle buses operating this year.
These will be in service to carry spectators both ways between the start area at Sorrento Pier and the finish area at Portsea Camp Oval returning via the PSLSC Back Beach Car Park
Bus services will commence at 8.15am from Portsea Back Beach Car Park Adjacent to the public toilets.
We would like to acknowledge, and thank our wonderful sponsors, who allow us the ability to ensure we continue to deliver you this amazing event year on year. Without their unwavering support, through these challenging times, the event may have not gone ahead this year.
