Raise money for RFS Blue Mountains
The volunteer firefighters of the Blue Mountains' Brigades of the Rural Fire Service have supported this race since the inaugural marathon in 1984 when there were less than a dozen runners, with 4 control points set up through the Megalong Valley. The aim of the race, apart from the fun aspect, was to raise funds for the Blue Mountains' Brigades - these days there are over 1000 entrants with 24 control points. Hundreds of volunteers give their time to ensure the safety of the runners and the success of the event.
Volunteers and staff provide logistical support, communications network and the command and control structure - with many months of planning to facilitate the running of the event.
Group Captain Frank Vincent supported the race every year from its inception by driving the trail prior to the race to ensure the safety of the runners and was the link between the volunteers and the race organisers. Sadly Frank passed away in 2021. These days various volunteer and staff members carry on this vital link.
Thank you for your kind donation - these funds will be used to enhance the comfort and wellbeing of the volunteer firefighters at their brigade stations, above and beyond the operational requirements which are supplied by the Rural Fire Service.
