The races have a new date, a new distance for Gateway to the Smokies (10 miles), new courses and a new venue where the race will start and finish. We are confident these improvements will enhance the event and grow it to the place it should be.

Welcome to the fifth annual Mighty 4 Miler to Benefit the Riley Howell Foundation Fund in beautiful Waynesville, North Carolina. We are privileged to honor the sacrifice and heroism of Riley Howell and the support the efforts of the foundation with this fun race. We are excited to announce some big changes for 2025 including a new date, a new course and a new venue where the race will start and finish. This race will be run in conjunction with the Gateway to the Smokies Ten-Miler.

Course
The race will begin on Commerce Street in the Frog Level section of Waynesville. The course will go up Main Street, under the new Gateway to the Smokies arch and past the Riley Howell memorial tree and will include parts of Waynesville and Hazelwood.
Aid stations will be located at mile points 2.2, 4.3, 5.3, and 8.2.

Time Limit
All 10-mile participants will have 3 hours to complete the course in order to be provided full police protection and aid station support. Those still on the course at this time will be asked to stay to sidewalks and follow traffic rules. Race officials will stay with all runners on the course to make sure they arrive to the finish line safely.
Swag
All runners registered by June 10 are guaranteed to receive a race shirt. Any registrations after this date will be based on availability.
All finishers will receive a commemorative finisher medal.
Spectators
Spectators are welcome at the start and finish area. Please see the Parking section below for the best place to park.
Dogs
We love dogs but we don't feel that running ten miles in June with one is a good idea. For that reason, dogs are not permitted in the ten-miler, however, they are allowed in the Mighty Four Miler.
Post-Race
We will be holding our traditional post-race program near the finish line on Commerce Street, including water and light snacks and the award ceremony at approximately 10:15 AM.
All finishers will receive a commemorative award at the finish line.
Awards
Special pottery awards from Mud Dabbers Pottery will be presented to the top three male and female finishers for Overall finishers and First place Masters (40 & Over) in each race.
Age Group Awards - Coming Soon!
Please plan on being present for the awards ceremony or make arrangements for someone else to pick up your award. They are fragile and cannot be mailed.
Timing
The race will utilize chip timing. A timing chip will be on the back of your race bib, which should be worn on your front and visible at all times during the race.
Your time will start when you cross the start pad and end when you cross the finish line.
Parking
All racers and spectators are encourage to park in the Haywood County Courthouse parking deck on Branner Avenue.
