In 2010 Brian Pinksen, Justin Eddison and myself embarked on TF 1-10 of Op Athena in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan with 2 RCR.
On August 30th, 2010 I received the crippling news that Brian had succumb to his injuries while being treated at a hospital in Germany after being struck by an IED in Panjwai.
Brian was the embodiment of what it meant to be a soldier in both physical discipline and adherence to military ethos.
In 2020, on the 10th anniversary of Brian's passing, Justin brought this amazing initiative to my attention.
This will be my 5th year participating in the Commanders Challenge which traditionally was a Half Marathon plus a 5km. In 2023 it had been updated to a Half Marathon + 10km + 5km. The rules allow you to run these separate from each other but as a challenge Justin and I always ran it as one and given the length update both decided to run a full Marathon distance to solidify our support for the cause and the memory of Brian. So 2025 will be the same!
This fundraiser goes toward CAF soldiers, via Support our Troops and Soldier On.
