ATTENTION COMMUNITY MEMBERS and STUDENTS
Runners often compliment the enthusiastic and helpful volunteers. Thank you for considering giving of your time and energy by volunteering. Races would not be possible without your help.
And what a great way to be part of a race without actually running. You will be able to cheer on the runners or congratulate them and gain experience at the same time. Various positions are available at various times and different locations. A souvenir volunteer T-shirt along with snacks and beverages will be provided. If volunteer credit hours are needed, verification will be granted by the Volunteer Manager.
Once your registration has been received, you will receive a confirmation e-mail. Further instructions specific to the position will be sent prior to the race date. You may be asked to attend a virtual briefing meeting in advance of race day to help you understand your role and where to check in.
Here are the various roles:
Course Marshals (Sunday Sept. 7th : 6:00am to 1:30pm latest)
Ensure the safety of the participants
Direct runners along the route
Cheer on and encourage participants as they pass by – “Great pace! Keep going!”
Inform any non-authorized vehicles that roads are closed and re-direct them to the next safe exit
Minimize interference with the race from traffic/pedestrians
Watch for participants who appear to be in difficulty and inform zone directors or medical staff
You will be asked to attend a virtual briefing in advance of race day and/or receive further guidance on your position and role from our course director
Pre-Race Kit Pick Up (Saturday Sept. 6th: 12pm -6pm at The Briars Resort and Spa)
Distribute to participants their number bib, race shirt and other relevant materials before the race
Set up, organize, and distribute the materials in an efficient manner
Gear Check (Sunday Sept. 7th: 6:30am -1:30pm)
Labeling and organizing runner’s belongings when they drop off and retrieve them in the timely manner at the end of the race
Watching over (and protecting) runners’ belongings during the race
Water Station (course) (Sunday Sept. 7th: 5:30am- 1:00pm)
Set up water station under the direction of a water station manager in preparation for the race start
Handing out water and Gatorade to runners during their race
Encouraging runners and cheering them on
Cleaning up the station afterwards
Water Station (Finish Line) (Sunday Sept. 7th: 6:30am - 2:00pm)
Handing out water to runners before and after their race
Cleaning up the station afterwards
Information Guide (Sunday Sept. 7th: 6:00am - 12pm)
Answering Who? What? Where? When? Why? How? questions
Guide runners quickly to their desired destination: registration, bag check, lavatories, etc.
Review information provided by staff including event schedule, Event Party Site layout, course map, and general knowledge of the event
Medal Distribution (Sunday Sept. 7th: 6:30am - 1:30pm)
Distribute medals to participants after their run
Set up and organize the medals ahead of time
Post-Race Food (Sunday Sept. 7th: 6:30am - 1:30pm)
Help to set up the finisher food and efficiently distribute them to the finishers
Make sure everything is restocked and loaded
Cleaning up post-race food area post-race
Floater (Sunday Sept. 7th: 6:00am-1:30pm)
There is no definite position, however serves as a substitute for a volunteer who is absent or late
May be reassigned numerous times to different tasks depending on where the need rises
Parking Management Team at Race Site & Overflow Lots (Sunday Sept. 7th: 5:30-7:15am)
1. Race site VIP lot at De La Salle Park
- pre-purchased passes only. Volunteers will monitor the entrance to check for VIP passes, and assist with parking efficiently.
- direct cars to overflow lots if they do not have a VIP pass
2. Overflow Lot - Red Barn Theatre, adjacent to Briars Resort
- Direct drivers to park efficiently in the lot and find the shuttle bus pick up
- Provide direction to alternate overflow lots if full
Pre-Race Set Up Crew - Saturday Sept. 6 (6:00pm-10:30pm @ De La Salle Park)
- Assist with unloading, unpacking and setting up equipment, tables, supplies
- Able to lift heavy items
- Able to work as part of a team and follow directions
Lead Cyclist (Sunday Sept. 7th: 6:00am -11:30am)
- Must bring and use own bike
- Have previous knowledge/experience in this role
- Must remain close to runners to lead them, but remain far enough ahead as not to interfere with the runner's pace
- Able to turn back quickly to pick up lead female runner
- Must be willing to do a course re-con ride in advance of the race to be familiar with the turn around points.
- Require: marathon, half-marathon, 10k & 5k
- Familiar with using race radio to communicate with course crew

Georgina Alligator
You could be the most iconic cheering volunteer of all! Dress up in our Alligator costume and get out on the course to encourage runners to keep their pace - keep going - or just smile! Requires energy, enthusiasm and willingness to be on the course from 6:45am - 12:45pm.
Post-Race Strike Crew - Sunday, Sept. 7th (1:30pm - 4:30pm)
- assist with taking down party site at the finish of the race, including tents, barriers, tables, supplies
- must be able/willing to lift and carry
- willing to work as a team with direction
