Brain Injury Association Waterloo-Wellington

Raise money for Brain Injury Association Waterloo-Wellington

Eleven years ago, my husband, the love of my life, suffered a life-altering brain injury that turned our world upside down. The vibrant, outgoing man I knew before the injury was suddenly replaced by someone struggling to make sense of a world that no longer felt familiar to him. Our lives changed in an instant, and I found myself feeling lost and unsure of how to best help him—and how to help myself through the emotional turmoil of it all.

Almost nine years ago, I created a local support group amongst people that I knew dealing with concussions and traumatic brain injuries and then discovered the Brain Injury Association of Waterloo-Wellington (BIAWW)In a time of transition for the organization, and with a background in management and experience behind me, I was able to step into my role as Executive Director for the organization. Along with a Board of Directors composed of acquired brain injury professionals in the community, as well as survivors, we have created a critical organization for the Waterloo-Wellington community.

We have been able to create resources for individuals in the community, and their families, living with the effects of acquired brain injury, and through this I was able to find the support I needed for myself and my husband. He has now recovered many of his abilities, but continues to have challenges, and faces each day with determination to live life to its fullest.

The BIAWW provides programs that have helped not only my husband, but helps over 250 survivors every year through art, technology, support groups, card making and other programs. Through our programs and services, individuals and families are able to navigate the challenges of recovery, manage the emotional and physical strain, and most importantly, feel less alone.

The BIAWW’s impact extends far beyond the services we offer—it's the hope, the encouragement, and the sense of belonging that instills a sense of determination and hope.

But there are so many more families in our community we have not been able to reach and support. That’s why I’m asking you, from the bottom of my heart, to consider making a donation to the BIAWW. Your gift will help us to continue to provide critical resources to families who are just starting their journey or still struggling to rebuild their lives after a brain injury.

In addition to programs directly supporting survivors and caregivers, BIAWW provides free education and awareness programs to elementary aged children and offers free helmets to over 1,000 children each year through our Lidz on Kidz program.

No donation is too small, and every contribution makes a difference. With your help, we can ensure that more families receive the care, support, and hope they deserve.

Thank you for considering a gift to this incredible organization. Your generosity means the world to us and to so many others in our community.

With deepest gratitude,

Lynda Abshoff

Executive Director, BIAWW
