Volunteer Information
First, we would like to thank you for volunteering to help make this event a success!!
Without our volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to make this run happen.
Race route volunteers: Please check in at the community centre at 7am;
Registration Desk volunteers: Please be at the community centre by 6:30am.
Below are a few tips to keep in mind to prepare before and during the run.
Take time prior to the run to familiarize yourself with the course, you may be asked questions by the runners and the public, or you may need to tell emergency officials your location.
Please wear your volunteer shirt and arrive on time for your shift, ready to work and have fun!
Wear comfortable, weather appropriate, clothing; the run is on, rain or shine.
Bring your cell phone in case of emergency or to get information.
Bring a lawn chair in case you want to sit down between runners.Bring your smiles, cheers and enthusiasm- happy marshals are so much more fun to runners.
Check in at the community centre to confirm where you are volunteering and to get any new instructions.
How long do I need to stay in my position?
Be in position by 7:30 AM, ensure barriers, signage and/or pylons are up.
A cyclist will be at the front of the 10KM and 5KM races. When you see them, you know the runners are coming. After the last runner, there should be a police car, and/or the race crew. Take down the barriers and signage. The race crew will pick up the barriers.
Please return your safety vest to the community centre. The T-shirt is yours to keep for next year.
Tips for Marshalls:
Know the route, direct runners to the correct run route
Do not direct traffic – only runners
Keep pedestrians off the routes
Alert medical officers should any runners need medical attention
Wear your volunteer t-shirt and safety vest
Tips for Water Station Volunteers:
Ensure there are adequate drinks ready for the runners
Hand out drinks to the runners in a safe & professional manner as to minimize disruption to their race
Make sure the area around the drink station is free of used cups & bottles
