My Story…
One week after my 35th birthday, the day I declared "it was going to be my year," I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. This was not my first go with cancer, but the first time it felt serious. In fact, I ran my first marathon to fundraise for a breast cancer organization not two months before, thinking that my cancer journey was long behind me.
On November 22, the day before the Philly Marathon, I turn 37. I could not be more excited to start off the year and mark my almost two year metastatic diagnosis by running my second marathon and fundraising for such an important cause - cancer research.
I quickly learned that having triple negative stage four cancer was bleak, as it is one of the breast cancer variations that has the least amount of treatment options. I am acutely aware of how important it is to continue funding cancer research and clinical trials. Without it, I would not be on the medication that is currently saving my life and allowing me to actually live.
