Help Kathleen raise money

Hello everyone!  Happy Spring!

This is my second time joining this AACR’s Runner’s for Research team, a cause that is very near and dear to my heart. Last time, I was able to raise over 2,000 dollars for cancer research running the 8k (20 weeks pregnant)!  I just got the clear to begin running again after knee surgery in November, and I can’t think of a better motivation to get my stride back. This time I am hoping to not only raise more money, but run more miles- the half marathon!! 

I was told to effectively fundraise, I should make it personal and tell my story. As many of you know, 1 in 3 people will develop cancer in their lifetime. Cancer affects all of us, whether we go through treatment ourselves or care for a loved one through their struggle. Unfortunately, my story began too early, at 12, when my dad was diagnosed with cancer. After almost 4 years of battling the disease, he passed away in 2006 when I was in sophomore year of high school.

As an only child, I was left to navigate this new grief with my mom (and a ton of amazing supportive friends and family). We developed a bond that only few know. She became my rock and my best friend. Seven years ago this past March, my world was thrown upside down again when I found out my mom was sick with cancer. She is the strongest woman I know, and will keep fighting to the end. 

While I choose to raise money, and run this race for my mom, I am also running it for all of you. Unfortunately, we are all impacted by this horrible disease one way or another. Every little bit helps towards the fight against cancer. Now, more than ever, we need to help raise money for cancer research.
