My Story…
As of January 2025, it’s estimated that over 770,000 people in Canada are living with Dementia, with an additional 414 people developing the disease every single day. This disease slowly destroys memory, thinking skills, and eventually, the ability to carry out the simplest tasks. The Alzheimer’s Society aims to alleviate the personal and social consequences of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
A beloved family member is my inspiration to complete this run and help raise funds for this Organization. She has been living with this disease since 2020. Since her diagnosis, her independence and sense of self has been severely compromised.
She is a mother, grandmother, sister, partner, and friend. When I think of her I am reminded of her quiet tone and kind demeanor. It is easy to think of the sun, always bright and exuding happiness and positivity wherever she goes- that is who she is. She has the kindest soul and is one of the most down to earth and compassionate people I have ever met.
As a child she would sit and read books to me, write notes to me with the most beautiful handwriting, and always offered me encouragement and unconditional love- this continued into adulthood.
This disease penetrates the whole family. It runs deep. She now relies on the love and support of her partner and caregiver to ensure her safety and well being. I am running for her, for those who love and care for her, and for everybody impacted by this disease.💜💜💜
