This course is suitable for beginners to the sport, or as a refresher to those returning to XC-skiing. Two instructors will help you feel relaxed and confident moving on skis. This four hour lesson will cover the basic techniques for efficient and safe XC-skiing on easy terrain, and how to manage obstacles and go up and down hills We will be doing a series of drills to cover basic xc ski skills then move into basic classic techniques . It will include diagonal stride, double pole and hill work. To encourage participants to utilize the skills just acquired we invite all participants to join us Sunday Jan 12th for a xc ski tour (optional).
Skis may be available to rent for the weekend (more info to come).
A warm building will be open. Warm up or take a break inside when necessary.
Location: Riverdale Mini Park (Subject to change based on conditions or other factors)
Time: 10:00 am - 3:00 pm (driving time additional) ( 45 min lunch break)
Date: Saturday Jan 11,2025 with follow-up xc ski tour on Sunday Jan 12 at 1:00pm . (Tour is optional)
Maximum Number of Students: 10
If weather or snow conditions are not favourable the course date will be rescheduled for Jan 18th, 2025 (3 day notice will be given).

Tentative Itinerary:
10:00 am - Greetings, Introductions, Getting to know your gear
10:45 am - series of exercises and drills designed for persons new to XC skiing using classic or skate skis. These drills will enable you to move SAFELY AND FREELY so you can manage obstacles and go up and down hills
Noon - Lunch
1240 - classic xc-skiing specific techniques
3:00 pm - Thank you for joining us
What to wear?
- Base layer: The first layer of clothing, worn closest to your skin, should be made of synthetic or wool material that dries quickly and moves sweat away from your body so you don’t get cold.
- Middle Layer: Next, you’ll want a layer for warmth, such as a fleece or lightweight puffy jacket or vest.
- Outer Layer: You’ll want a jacket that is water resistant, windproof and breathable.
What to Bring?
- PACK A LUNCH for noon break and snacks to maintain your energy.
- A CHANGE of base layer and a change of mitts for afternoon session. A change of socks is optional.
- SKIS, SKI BOOTS and POLES!
We may be able to provide you with rental equipment for the weekend, cost to be determined. Info to follow at a later date.
