Topics (include)
This is a foundation level course with a focus on the knowledge, practical skills and clinical reasoning to manage the acute presentation of the dizzy patient. This would be applicable from the complete beginner through to those with some experience who wish to build on their skills.
This course would be appropriate for those working in areas such as the Emergency Department, an Acute General Medicine Unit or a Neurosciences or Trauma Unit, including new graduates and grade 1s. This course would also provide valuable skills for physiotherapists working in a generalist role.
Please note - This is NOT a Vestibular Rehabilitation Course. The focus of this course is the decision making and management in the acute presentation.
AT THE END OF THIS COURSE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO:
· Identify and treat the person with uncomplicated BPPV of the posterior and horizontal canals;
· Identify those with likely Vestibular Neuritis, providing initial Physiotherapy management;
· Screen for red flags that would suggest a central disorder;
· Demonstrate knowledge to advocate for your patient’s ongoing management.
