*For individuals with visual disabilities, when collecting their package, it's necessary to present an original medical certificate confirming total or partial blindness or visual impairment. This certificate must be issued solely by a government institution, such as ISSSTE, IMSS, or the Health Sector (private institutions won't be accepted). Additionally, they must run accompanied by a guide and wear a mask.
So, because of all that, if you're in the category of people with visual disabilities (T11, T12, and T13) or blindness (whether partial or total), when you go to pick up your runner's package, you need to bring both the original and a copy of: Medical certificate showing total or partial blindness or visual impairment, which should be endorsed by a government institution like ISSSTE, IMSS, or the Health Sector. You’ll also need the Medical Diagnostic Form for Athletes with Visual Impairment, which should be endorsed by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and FEMEDECIDEVI. Runners who are blind or visually impaired can have up to two guides with them for the whole event, and these guides can be either men or women.
The guide needs to wear a vest or some other brightcolored clothing that sets them apart from the disabled runner, and it should have the name “guide” on it.

10. REGULATIONS
The existing FMAA regulations will be current.
11. GUIDELINES
The Mexico City Marathon has the backing of the FMAA, WA, and AIMS.
• BIB NUMBER:
A timing chip will be given to each participant, linked to their printed participation number. This chip is nontransferable and needs to be worn at chest height in front of the participant during the entire race to qualify as an official runner.
• HEALTHCARE COST INSURANCE:
If there's an accident, the runner needs to be the one registered with the number; otherwise, it won't be covered. It's important to write the runner's name on the back of the number, along with their blood type, and any allergies or medical conditions they might have should be noted as well.
• SERVICES:
The designated supply area must be respected for those runners with official number.
• RECOVERY PACKAGE:
Finisher's medal, fruit, water, and isotonic drink are available only for runners with their official number. Runners without a number will be disqualified from the race and won't be allowed into the recovery area.
• T-SHIRT SIZE:
When you register, asking for your shirt size is just for stats and doesn’t mean the Organizing Committee is promising to give you that size.
• RUNNERS SETTING OFF:
Participants need to make their way to the assigned starting point according to the block that matches your registration info. The participant that shows up in a different spot than the assigned will be disqualified. It’s really important for you and all the other runners to stick to your assigned starting block.
• RESULTS:
There will be checkpoints set up all along the route to keep track of time, so it's really important to go through each one to avoid disqualification. As you pass through these checkpoints, you can track the runners' progress in real time using the Marathon App. Just a heads up, though—the times and results you see published aren't official.
• UNOFFICIAL RUNNERS:
They aren't allowed on the race and will need to exit the route. Anyone without an official registration who enters or accompanies a participant during the event will have to leave the route right away. These unofficial runners affect the safety and quality of service for those who registered and paid properly. Plus, participants found with a fake number will face penalties and won't be permitted to run in any events under the “Mexico City Marathon” brand (including races leading up to the Marathon, 21 km, and the Marathon) in the future years.
• ROUTE DELIMITATION:
Participants need to stay within the boundaries set by fences, signs, or other markers throughout the event. It's important for everyone to acknowledge and understand the event signs and symbols that guide them for race directions and services, and to follow the instructions given by the officials. Not following these rules will lead to disqualification.
• TIME LIMIT:
You can run at a pace of up to 8 minutes and 30 seconds per kilometer, which means runners must complete the route within 6 hours. If they take longer, they'll need to hop on the sweeper that follows and get a ride to the finish line. Those runners will be disqualified and won't be part of the official results.
• ROUTE MONITORING:
Not finishing the whole course or not crossing the finish line means you’ll be disqualified. If there are any incomplete or unusual marks on the official mats, participants will be checked and could face disqualification. If someone needs to leave the course or come back in, they can only do so at the same spot and can’t re-enter the race to gain a position or help another competitor.
Note: Any runners caught engaging in unsportsmanlike behavior, like taking shortcuts during the race to finish without completing the whole course, will be disqualified.
12. JUDGES
The Judges will be approved by the FMAA, and an Electronic Timing System will be utilized with a chip linked to the printed competitor number, which should be worn at the front during the race (this system is just for support and doesn’t decide the winners).
13.AWARDS
*Runners who finish in the top 8 Absolute Places won’t be able to request changes to access the prize for their age category. (THE PRIZE WILL BE PAID IN MEXICO AT THE EXCHANGE RATE ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT)
IMPORTANT: Bonuses are not cumulative, so if the Route Record and the Historic Marathon Record are both broken, there will be just one prize, and it will go only to the overall first place.
• Just in the case of mexicans born in Mexico, they can accumulate the 1st Mexican bonus along with either the Historical Record or Route Record bonus, depending on the situation, plus the special prize for Mexicans. This means they can receive a maximum of two bonuses plus the special prize.
• Special prize: awarded to the first 3 Mexicans, as long as they meet the minimum times of:
• Men's category 2h 14m 00s
• Women's category 2h 42m 00s
According to the current FMAA regulations regarding bonuses and special prizes, 7% will be withheld from national runners and 14% from foreign runners as part of the economic stimulus for the winning runners
to be sent to the mentioned Federation; along with 1% of the Federal ISR and 6% of the Local ISR as per the current Fiscal Law in Mexico, (2% withholding for the anti-doping fund, for the top 8 in the men's category and the top 8 in the women's category).
NOTES: 1. The winners of the top eight overall spots in both the men's and women's categories, who also rank among the top in their specific category, can only receive one prize that corresponds to their overall position (no prize duplication allowed). This will be awarded based on the official winners' lists provided by the FMAA.
2. The group of individuals with motor disabilities (wheelchair) will only be given out in its specific category, and it won't count towards the 8 overall spots.
3. To qualify for the corresponding prize in any category, there needs to be at least 25 registered runners participating. This rule doesn’t apply to individuals with visual disabilities (whether total or partial blindness and visual impairment) and those who use wheelchairs.
4. The Organizing Committee and the FMAA have the right to conduct doping tests on the runners who finish in first place in any category and division.
5. The winners will receive their awards afterward the Organizing Committee will officially get the anti-doping results from the laboratory sent to the FMAA. Once the FMAA sends the official results to the Organizing Committee, they’ll have 30 days to complete the prize payments to the runners who won according to the call.
6. Based on WA's guidelines, if there are any results adverse analytical results, the Organizing Committee will go ahead and award the prizes to the runners who are entitled to them, as stated in the event announcement, except for those linked to the adverse analytical results.
7. In case the analytical results are verified, the Organizing Committee will adjust the prizes accordingly.
8. The distribution of economic awards will be
handled by
three ways:
- check
- e-transfer
- letter of attorney
a) Make sure to be there in person on the specified dates shared on social media at the Mexico City Sports Institute offices, which are located at Av. División del Norte 2333, in the General Pedro Maria Anaya neighborhood, Benito Juárez Municipality, C.P. 03340, Mexico City.
b) Top runners and category champions need to sign the Internal Payment Control Letter at the registration. Runners who haven't got this and are winners need to bring it signed to the Mexico City Sports Institute to collect their prize (through electronic transfer). If they choose an electronic transfer, the winner gives up the physical prizes (like a Garmin watch, trophy, and others).
c) Alternatively, they can give a power of attorney to someone they choose to collect the prize for them, and that person must provide the following documents: 1) The original power of attorney signed by both the athlete and the person authorized to collect the prize, along with two witnesses;
2) A clear copy of the athlete's official ID;
3) The original and a copy of the official ID of the person designated to collect the prize for the athlete;
4) A copy of the IDs of the two witnesses who signed the power of attorney.
9. The manager or representative of foreign athletes living in Mexico or competing with a letter of endorsement from their federation must sign a commitment letter when they pick up their competitor number. This letter states that they are responsible for informing their representatives to collect their prizes within the timeframe specified in the announcement.
10. Is the runners obligation to check the results for the categories and absolutes in the main newspapers circulating in Mexico City, along with the Mexico City Marathon website at www.maraton.cdmx.gob.mx
11. According to the current FMAA regulations, 7% will be withheld from national runners and 14% from foreign runners as part of the economic stimulus, which will go to the Federation. Additionally, there will be a 1% withholding for the Federal ISR and 6% for the Local ISR, following the Fiscal Law in Mexico. Also, there's a 2% withholding for the anti-doping fund, applicable to the top 8 finishers in both the men's and women's categories.
12. According to the World Athletics rules, since the Telcel Mexico City Marathon is a Gold Label event by WA, there will be a levy on the gross prize money that's published (before any penalties and taxes) for the top 8 ranked athletes in both categories. This levy is basically the elite athletes and their representatives pitching in for the anti-doping fund. It’ll amount to 2.0% of the prize money that’s been announced. This contribution will be taken out of the total prize money that the elite athletes are supposed to get, and the race organizer will send it directly to World Athletics.
13. The Organizing Committee has the right to make phone calls or send emails about the award ceremony. It's up to the runner (athlete) and the person chosen to receive the award to make sure everything is done on time.
14. The preliminary official results for awarding will start coming out at 10:30 a.m. on the event day, and the athlete will have 30 minutes to submit any protests. After the results are released, the protest process will follow the current FMAA Regulations, and the required start-up fee must be paid.
15. Name changes won't be allowed under any circumstances, to ensure the athlete's safety.
