OUR FINISH LINE SAYS ALS DONE!

Dear Friends & Family,

We are proud and honored to once again run on the ALS ONE Falmouth Road Race Team in honor of Kathryn and Jack's cherished dad, Tom McCarthy, who was lost to Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) in 2019 at the age of just 53. While Tom didn't have ALS, MSA and ALS are both very progressive and terrifying neurodegenerative diseases.  Each affect the body in different ways and have distinct characteristics - ALS primarily affects motor neurons, leading to muscle weakness and paralysis, while MSA impacts both motor and autonomic nervous systems, causing a wider range of symptoms including motor, autonomic, and sometimes cerebellar dysfunction.

The average survival after an ALS diagnosis is 3-5 years, whereas MSA often progresses at varying rates, but generally has a more rapid progression than some forms of ALS.

Funds raised through our team directly impact the research at MGH where Tom was being treated and we know that finding a cure for either of these diseases will ultimately help uncover cures for all neurological diseases.

We are so grateful for your support.

💚💙 Love, all of us on “Tom’s Team”, Kathryn & Jack McCarthy, Amanda and Andrew Michienzi, Tim Olsen, Meaghan & Kale Rockey, and Matthew Saba.

We hope you'll read more about Tom HERE. He was amazing and is so very missed.
