Why I'm running in support of AAFA New England
This summer, I’m lacing up my running shoes, something I’ve NEVER done before, to run the Falmouth Road Race as part of the AAFA New England team. I’m running in honor of Michael (Brownie) Brown, beloved husband to my dear friend Megan Brown, who tragically passed away after a wasp sting. Brownie had no prior history of allergies, and the lack of immediate access to an EpiPen was a heartbreaking factor in his passing. Through this run, I’m supporting AAFA New England’s mission to raise awareness, increase access to life-saving tools, and advocate for those facing life-threatening allergic reactions.
This cause is deeply personal. Megan and I often call ourselves grief sisters; bonded not just by friendship, but by the weight of sudden loss. I lost my brother Martin 2.5 years ago to sudden cardiac arrest, and walking through that grief has made me fiercely passionate about supporting others in theirs. Running this race is a way for me to honor both Brownie and my brother, and to channel that love, loss, and support into something powerful.
I’ve never been a runner. In fact, committing to this 7-mile race feels like a daunting challenge. But each mile I train and complete is a testament to the strength of friendship, the resilience of community, and the importance of advocating for access to tools and education that could save lives.
Your support means the world; to me, to Megan, and to families like ours who are navigating unimaginable loss. Let’s run together toward a future where no one has to face these tragedies alone!
