My Story…
I am honored to be a member of the We Beat Cancer team for the fourth consecutive year at the 2025 Falmouth Road Race. Most of my running miles every year occur on the west coast, but I’ve come to treasure the sportsmanship and competition and community benefit of this east coast race.
Many of us – too many – have been impacted by cancer. My father’s battle with brain and colon cancer went longer than the doctors predicted (ultimately, long enough for him to see his children grow up). I dedicated the 2022 race to a childhood friend who struggled with lymphoma on and off again before passing early that year.
We Beat Cancer is a charitable organization that provides financial assistance to cancer patients and their loved ones. The mission - in addition to funding care and treatment - includes helping to alleviate the “hidden” burdens of serious medical treatment – the costs of childcare, transportation, groceries. More recently the funding has been directed toward pediatric cancer patients and research specifically.
Last year, our race team raised $50,000 to support these causes. Thank you to all who are able to donate through me this year. There are many organizations out there doing good work in the fight against cancer. Through sustained efforts across many fronts, we will eventually beat this disease.
