My Story…
My connection with SOWMA spans several years, and our family has been privileged to be involved firsthand by packing backpacks and donating school supplies, ensuring students have what they need to start the school year confidently. This hands-on experience has only deepened my commitment to their work, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a full-time working parent of three, I understand the daily efforts involved in providing for one's children. The pandemic brought unprecedented challenges, and the thought of parents who lost their jobs facing the agonizing choice between essential school supplies and putting food on the table struck a deep chord with me. It’s a pain no parent should have to endure, and it solidified my resolve to support organizations like SOWMA that directly alleviate these burdens for families in our communities.
Schools on Wheels is dedicated to supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of students impacted by homelessness and poverty. They provide not just backpacks and school supplies – which our family has helped prepare – but also tutoring, mentoring, and a beacon of hope, ensuring that these children have the tools and support they need to learn and thrive, regardless of their circumstances.
Now, let me be clear: I am not a runner! In fact, I often joke that I can swim much faster than I can run. Taking on this 7-mile race is a significant personal challenge for me. However, I see this as a powerful opportunity to step far outside my comfort zone to represent and raise awareness for an organization that does such vital work. Every step I run, every mile I conquer, will be fueled by the thought of the children SOWMA serves and the dedicated staff and volunteers who work tirelessly on their behalf.
By participating in the Falmouth Road Race, I'm not just challenging myself physically; I'm standing in solidarity with families who face far greater challenges every day. I'm running to help ensure that more children have the resources they need for a brighter educational future. I hope you'll consider supporting my run and, in turn, supporting the amazing work of Schools on Wheels.
