I'm running the Falmouth Road Race to END ALZ!

On August 17th, I’ll be running my very first Falmouth Road Race in honor of my dad, Brian Igoe, who we lost to Alzheimer’s in December 2023.

Over 6 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s, by 2050 this number is expected to rise to nearly 13 million. In addition, more than 11 million others are providing unpaid care for their loved ones. Being my Dad’s caregiver opened my eyes to how devastating this illness truly is, and how quickly it can change everything.

My Dad was a lover of all things active and outdoors. Whether it was competing in triathlons and running marathons, coaching snowboarding, biking in Moab, or simply chasing us kids around the track — movement and being outside was his happy place. I feel so fortunate that he passed that passion on to me, and now more than ever, I feel most connected to him when I'm on a run or hiking through the woods with one of my daughters strapped to my back. Losing him to Alzheimer's was heartbreaking for a number of reasons, one of those being that it took away his ability to run, bike, swim and eventually, walk. It's a devastating disease and one that I feel compelled to fight back against.

Now more than ever, raising awareness and funds is essential. WIth the current administration cutting funding for crucial Alzheimer's research, the responsibility to drive progress falls more heavily on us. I've set a goal to raise $5,000 for the Alzheimer's Association and I can't do it without your support, every dollar makes a difference.

Thank you for being a part of this journey with me and for your continued support. I know my Dad will be with me on race day, he has the tendency to visit me via my running playlist, dropping in "Hey Ya" by Outkast, a song that was on repeat during an entire ski trip we took out west in the 2000s, or "Kiss" by Prince, the song that he insisted on dancing to in front of all my friends at my Sweet Sixteen. I feel fortunate to be able to run for him, and for the millions of other individuals and families impacted by Alzheimers. Thank you in advance for your support!
