Support. Inspire. Empower.

Hi all,

Excited to share I am running the Falmouth Road Race on behalf of the Herren Project in August for the 5th year in a row. Herren Projected is a national nonprofit organization providing free resources and support for the treatment, recovery and prevention of substance use disorder.

One of their values that stood out to me is “We believe one person’s story can inspire another and create a ripple effect for positive change.”

This year I am struggling to find the right words to express what this cause means to me, so instead I am taking a bit of a shortcut approach and sharing Jelly Rolls speech on congress. If you have a few minutes, I hope you will give it a listen. ( https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rDSekKuG44E&pp=0gcJCc0JAYcqIYzv). For context if needed, he is speaking in regard to the FEND off Fentanyl Act. In summary, without going into detail and politics, this bill builds upon earlier efforts like the 2018 HALT Fentanyl Act. The FEND Off Fentanyl Act classifies fentanyl analogs (not fentanyl approved for medical use) that lack medicinal value as Schedule I controlled substances, which results in harsher penalties for possession and trafficking. In addition, it declares international trafficking of fentanyl-related substances a national emergency. It authorizes the U.S. government to impose sanctions on foreign individuals and criminal organizations involved in the fentanyl trade. The FEND Off Fentanyl Act was signed into law in April 2024.

But a bill can only do so much. What truly moves change are people. Stories, voices and actions. That’s why I’m running. That’s why I support Herren Project. And that’s why I’m asking for your help. To those who have supported me in past years—through donations, kind words, or just reading these updates—thank you. Your support means more than you know. Not just to me, but to every person impacted by substance use disorder who’s still fighting, recovering, or searching for hope. Let’s keep creating that ripple.
