Why I am running for SMILE Mass?
Hi, I'm Aisling Flanagan-Hickey from Kingston, MA, and this is my first time running the Falmouth Road Race!
I’m thrilled (and a little nervous!) to take on this 7-mile challenge along one of the most scenic routes in New England. As a nurse practitioner, I’m no stranger to hard work—but this time it’s for a cause that’s incredibly close to my heart: SMILE Mass.
SMILE Mass has helped my family more times than I can count. My son uses a wheelchair, and thanks to their beach wheelchairs and accessible vacation home, we’ve been able to enjoy unforgettable beach days together—something that used to feel out of reach. They are true champions of accessibility, and they bring so much joy to families like mine.
When I lace up my sneakers on August 17th, I’ll be running for SMILE Mass and the countless families they support every year. My fundraising goal is $1,400—but, I’m aiming to crush that and rise to the challenge—especially when it means giving back to a group that gives families and people living with disabilities and less mobility so much!
In addition to running, I love gardening, spending time at the beach, and enjoying time with my two amazing college-aged kids and my fabulous friends and family!
Please consider donating to my page and helping SMILE Mass continue their mission: helping families raising children and adults with disabilities to live happy, healthy lives through vacation and recreation experiences. Every contribution makes a difference and is well appreciated. Thanks for your support!!!
Let’s do this—together!
❤️ Aisling
Description
SMILE Mass is excited to be participating in our 15th Falmouth Road Race on August 17th 2025.
The Falmouth event is one of SMILE Mass' favorite events as the crowd, the course and the scenery are all breathtaking. The 7 mile course is challenging to say the least but the enthusiasm of the crowd, the incredible views of the ocean with waves crashing beside and the thrill of running as part of the SMILE Mass team is beyond description.
The mission of SMILE Mass is to help families raising children or adults with disabilities enjoy happy, healthy memories through vacation and recreation experiences. We run for those who can't.
Over the last 14 years, SMILE Mass has:
* Donated over 180 floating beach wheelchairs to public beaches throughout New England making the joy of a day at the beach to be accessible for all.
*Created an Equipment Loaner Program that allows families to borrow adapted equipment free of charge for a day, a week, or longer.
* Purchased and opened an accessible beach rental in Truro, MA (Cape Cod) so families can enjoy a beach vacation.
* Built several accessible playgrounds in Metrowest area of Massachusetts.
None of this could have been accomplished without support from caring individuals just like you! Together we can build a world where everyone belongs despite disability. Visit our page at www.smilemass.org or watch our heartwarming video that aired on WCVB-5 for Good to donate or learn more about our mission.
Thank you from the bottom of our heart,
Lotte, Susan and the rest of the SMILE Mass Team
