My Story…

This year, I’m running my first Falmouth Road Race for an organization that is deeply personal to me: Independence House.

I first heard about Independence House when I was little, but it wasn’t until I was older that I truly understood what it meant for my family. This organization helped give my mom something priceless — her freedom, our safety, and a path forward out of the darkness we had found ourselves in.
I’m running this race for her — for the strength she showed when she took that first brave step — and for every person out there who is suffering in silence, hoping for a way out. Independence House is there when you're ready. They offer not just various forms of assistance, but hope, healing, and the belief that a better life is possible. We found a home where there were soft voices and belly laughs instead of yelling and walking on eggshells. We found days full of love.

If you’re able, I’d be honored if you would support my run and this life-saving organization. Together, we can help others find safety, strength, and a new beginning. 🫶🏼

💜 Why This Matters:

•1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men in the U.S. experience severe intimate partner physical violence in their lifetime.

•Emotional and psychological abuse — including manipulation, gaslighting, isolation, and constant criticism — can leave deep, lasting wounds even when there are no visible scars.

•Many survivors describe emotional abuse as harder to heal from than physical violence. It can destroy self-esteem, create fear and confusion, and trap people in cycles of control.

•On average, 20 people per minute are abused by an intimate partner in the U.S.

•Domestic violence is one of the leading causes of homelessness for women and children in America.

•Survivors often stay in abusive situations because they lack safe alternatives — that’s why places like Independence House are essential.
