Fit Futures: Building Healthy Futures Through Movement
Smart Health Initiatives is focused on preventing chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes before they take hold—especially among young people. One of the most powerful ways to do that is by helping students build healthy habits early. That’s why Fit Futures was created: a school-based initiative designed to introduce students to running, movement, and nutrition in a structured and supportive environment. But efforts like this only succeed when people who care step forward to support them.
The Fit Futures Run Club at Sligh Middle School in Tampa is already showing what’s possible. Students are learning proper running form, building endurance, and discovering the confidence that comes from setting and achieving goals. For many, this is their first exposure to organized running or a consistent wellness program.
Your support helps turn opportunity into reality for these students. Contributions directly help us:
Provide certified running coaches who train students safely and correctly
Supply running shoes and gear for students who otherwise would not have them
Cover race registration fees so students can participate in races across Tampa Bay
Bring in nutritionists who guide students, school staff, and parents on fueling healthier lifestyles
Together, these elements create a supportive ecosystem around the students—combining movement, mentorship, and education in a way that can shape habits for life.
Most importantly, this kind of school-based running and wellness initiative simply isn’t happening elsewhere in our community. By supporting Fit Futures, you are helping create opportunities that allow young people to move more, build confidence, and develop habits that protect their health for years to come.
You can help make all of this possible by supporting an effort that is already changing lives—one student, one mile, and one healthy step at a time.
