Our story…

I’m Zach Schnitzer AKA Schnitzy. I’m a diehard sports fan and am a contributor for Winnipeg Sports Talk and Bonfire Sports. Also, I myself have survived mental health issues and am thriving now, thanks to the support of my family and friends, local mental health programs and services, and the Winnipeg sports community. For me, sports are about connection and a crucial one is with the wonderful people of The 1930 Crew.

The 1930 Crew is an annual Blue Bombers fan bus trip to Regina for the Labour Day Classic. Organized by Tara Maslowsky, Jeffrey Bannon, and Pat Rathwell, it’s for the fans, by the fans. More than football, this trip is about connection. We have become a family, albeit a rowdy one. This incredible group is one of the reasons I am well today.

Coincidentally, the theme for this year’s Canadian Mental Health Association Mental Health Week, May 4-10, is Come Together, Canada. Canadians are lonelier than ever, contributing to the rising rates of mental illness in our country.

Join the 1930 Crew as we strengthen connection, get active, and support local mental health programs. We’d love you to join our team to walk or run, even virtually. Donations are welcome; even small amounts add up.

Thank you for connecting with us.
