My Story…
In May 2026, our family will lace up our runners for the Calgary Marathon as part of the Strong Like Sloane team. Lindsay and I will be running the half, Esmae the 5km, and August will be doing the kid's race. We will be running with purpose, hope, and determination for kids facing cancer. Our goal is simple but powerful: raise funds to support precision oncology, a field that is changing — and saving — lives.
Why Precision Oncology Matters
Precision oncology is transforming how cancer is treated. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, it uses genetic profiling to understand the unique biology of each tumor — identifying the mutations driving the cancer and matching patients with targeted therapies that are often more effective and less toxic.
It’s about:
The right drug
For the right patient
At the right time
For families who have run out of standard options, this personalized approach offers something priceless: information, options, and hope.
Each test costs approximately $14,000 per child, and Alberta sees 10–12 children every year who urgently need this level of testing.
Our family’s goal for 2026 is to fully fund one of these critical tests — to give another family the same chance we fought so hard for.
Why This Is Personal
Programs like this are deeply personal for us. We have self‑funded two precision oncology tests for myself, and the results are one of the main reasons I’m still here today. They gave us clarity on which drugs could help — and just as importantly, which ones could have caused more harm.
While the credit card points were a small silver lining, the financial stress was enormous. Families shouldn’t have to choose between life‑saving information and financial stability.
A Gift of Hope
Cancer took our family to our absolute lowest. With your help, we can lighten that unbearably heavy load for someone else. The thought of a child going through what I did is gut‑wrenching, and we’re committed to doing everything we can to ease that burden.
In a world that often feels dark, this is a chance to create real, immediate impact for a family navigating the unimaginable. We’d be honoured to have you join us.
Your donation isn’t just support — it’s hope, direction, and a fighting chance.
