My Story…
This week is Mental Health Week in Canada — and the timing of this race feels right.
1 in 5 Calgarians need mental health support at any given time. That's not a statistic about strangers. That's someone in your family, your workplace, your circle of friends. Maybe it's you. It has been me.
I'm running the Servus Calgary 10K at 53 — my first ever actual race — because I believe that access to mental health support shouldn't depend on what's in your bank account. Emotional distress doesn't wait for a convenient moment. It just arrives. And when it does, having the right support available can be the difference between surviving something and being overwhelmed by it.
The Calgary Counselling Centre provides affordable, accessible counselling to people regardless of their ability to pay. That matters enormously. Not everyone has access to workplace benefits or private care. This organisation fills that gap.
I've learned over the years that movement is medicine — and so is having something to build. But neither replaces the value of being able to talk to someone who knows how to help.
Every dollar you contribute goes toward making that support available to someone who needs it and can't otherwise afford it.
Thank you for running this with me, even from the sidelines.
