RUN to support kids experiencing food insecurity
Currently, I’m about 8 weeks into my hip/thigh rehab. At 72+, the injury recovery process has dragged on. Signing up for a 10k run in the 2026 Calgary Marathon is just me setting a goal for full recovery by the end of May. I am thankful for my great health, which has enabled me to enjoy many of my favourite pastimes in this latter part of life. During the registration process, it became apparent that I can also do some good with my run. It’s nothing new – get others to sponsor my run and all proceeds go to a charity. The charity that I’ve previously volunteered at is Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids (BB4CK). This group makes close to 8000 sandwich lunches for kids each school day. Kids learn better with a full tummy!! While the group at BB4CK continues to do great work supporting school kids, I opted out after a short while. Making hundreds of sandwiches at 8:30 or earlier in the morning is just not my cup of tea/coffee. However, here’s a second chance for me to contribute via a 10K run in this year’s Calgary Marathon. I can achieve my recovery goal and support Calgary’s school kids with some legwork.
