Personal Kayak Escort
DETAILS
ALL participants for Hell or High Water 10 Mile Swim are required to have a personal kayak escort along the course. We need your help to provide escorts for every swimmer! Personal kayak escorts will paddle along with their swimmer throughout the course.
COURSE AND REQUIREMENTS
The course is a DOWNSTREAM 10 mile course on the Catawba River, so paddling will be at leisurely pace and aided by the river current. River conditions are very calm and there are NO rapids or fast moving waters. Even novice kayakers will enjoy this beautiful course!
We do ask that kayakers are able to swim (while we don't expect you to be in the water, we want you to be prepared for anything!). ALL kayakers are required to have a personal flotation device on their boat. We will provide the kayak and the flotation device (or you're welcome to bring your own!)
RACE DATE AND LOCATION
Saturday, June 7, 2025
724 Elm Ave
Mt Holly, NC
Kayakers will be assigned to an individual swimmer in Wave 1 or Wave 2.
WAVE 1: Race starts at 6:30 AM (KAYAKERS ARRIVE NO LATER THAN 6:10 AM)
WAVE 2: Race starts at 7:00 AM (KAYAKERS ARRIVE NO LATER THAN 6:20 AM)
WHAT TO EXPECT
Kayakers will be connected to their swimmer via email prior to the event. Your swimmer MAY choose to reach out to you with more details before the event. Swimmers will likely ask you to carry their food/hydration in your kayak, and may ask you to alert them to their scheduled feeding times. They will let you know exactly what they need from you. Just make sure to wear a watch or bring a phone so keep their time if asked.
WHAT TO BRING
Wear comfortable clothes, and whatever you need to stay comfortable on the river. Suggested items are sunscreen, water bottle, food, sun hat, sunglasses, music, phone or watch.
AMENITIES
There will be a portajon near the halfway point. Located at 7308 Wilkinson Blvd at Kevin Loftin US 74 Boat Ramp. There will be a buoy in the water to let you know when you're nearing the ramp. There will also be water at this station to refill you water bottles.
