My Story…
Hi, I’m Tressa. I’m a mom, a grandma, and an Army wife, and this is my third year participating in the BumRun in Halifax.
I first learned about BumRun when one of my fellow military spouses was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in her 40s. She was a mother of four girls, and her diagnosis shook me. Until then, colon cancer had never crossed my mind. Not long after, a friend of a friend was diagnosed in her late 50s. She passed away in the fall of 2025.
The first year, I walked the race because I was too out of shape to run. The second year, my husband and I volunteered. This year is different. This year, I’m running. And so is my husband.
I’m writing this in January, and to be honest, I can’t even run 1 kilometre without walking. Training leaves me out of breath, sore, and questioning my sanity. But I am committed. I am training to run the full 5K without stopping, in under 40 minutes, and to raising $1,000 for this important cause.
I am running in support of Mische, and in honour of Susan. I’m running so that more families don’t have to face the heartbreak that colon cancer brings. If my effort, sweat, and determination can help raise awareness and funds, then every difficult step is worth it.
Thank you for supporting me, and for helping make a difference.
