My Story…
Running has always been more than just miles for me—it’s part of my story. My dad, a fellow veteran, was the one who first got me into running. He was also one of the biggest reasons I chose to serve. No matter what I pursued, he was my biggest supporter, and he was especially excited to watch me run my first marathon. When that race was canceled, we both believed there would be another chance. Recently, my dad passed away, and that chance now means something entirely different to me.
Along the way, my journey in both service and running hasn’t been easy. I’ve faced multiple setbacks, including several TBIs that challenged me physically and mentally. Training for my first marathon became a deeply healing experience—it was the moment I decided that pain and setbacks wouldn’t get to decide what my life looks like. Running reminded me that I could still do hard things, still chase the things that bring me purpose, and still move forward.
Running the Twin Cities Marathon with Team USO is incredibly meaningful to me. As a veteran, supporting an organization that serves service members and their families is close to my heart. But this race is also for my dad—for the man who first laced up running shoes with me, who believed in me long before I believed in myself. Every mile I run will be in honor of him, the sacrifices of those who serve, and the journey it took to get me to this starting line.
