My Story…
My sister Tiffany was diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer at the age of 29. Because of that, I have gotten yearly mammograms. Last fall, I started having pain in my sternum, about 9 months after a clear mammogram. My next mammogram a few months later revealed breast cancer in my left breast and lymph nodes. And then a PET scan and biopsy confirmed my sternum pain was actually breast cancer that had spread to my sternum and ribs. Which meant my breast cancer was stage IV, metastatic. Metastatic breast cancer is currently not curable. There are treatments that will keep me alive for as long as my body will allow it but that isn’t good enough. My doctor says that on average people get years, not decades. And my own research tells me that average is about 3-5 years. I am only 47 years old and have two children that live at home. Like so many other women living with this horrible disease, I want more time.
So I am running the TC 10 mile to raise money for research to find a cure for metastatic breast cancer. vraniCURE is a Minnesota-based nonprofit dedicated to funding research for metastatic breast cancer and supporting women living with the disease. While so much money is donated to breast cancer research, only a tiny portion of that is typically reserved for stage IV, metastatic, breast cancer. This organization is specifically for metastatic breast cancer. Thank you for considering a donation to this needed cause.
