My Story
Hi. 🫶
I know there is a lot going on right now in our world. I have never felt more proud to be a Minnesotan that’s for damn sure.
I want to share something really important to me.
The current leadership right now is making short sighted decisions that have long term consequences and threats for wildlife, nature, and communities.
Representatives are attempting to use the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to overturn the 20-year mining ban protecting the Boundary Waters watershed from toxic copper mining. This bill sets a precedent that any past land management decision could be vulnerable to being undone.
To think of all that’s going on in our world feels overwhelming, so I try to think of what I can do in steps. There is a lot of good in our world right now. Supporting groups like Save the Boundary Waters feels like a simple step for me.
We have to speak loudly for our quiet places.
Save the Boundary Waters is leading the effort to gain permanent protection from sulfide-ore copper mining. There are so many important groups organizing support for our natural areas and it inspires me. These groups are so important in the work they do to protect wildlife and the wilderness and getting information out to people on actions they can take to help.
I am raising money for Save the Boundary Waters by running Grandma’s Marathon for the 2nd year. If you can donate, anything helps. Stay informed about changes and contact your Senators!
Last year we helped raise over $1,000!
Now is the time to defend the public lands and waters that belong to all of us. Public participation is a pillar of sound environmental policy, and the ongoing attacks on this fundamental right will have long-term, irreversible consequences. As human populations expand and wild spaces become ever more sought after for development, it is more important than ever to ensure that environmental safeguards are in place.
With the money you help me raise it goes towards this effort to preserve and protect. Help stay informed and protect our wild, natural areas like the Boundary Waters.
Help be part of the movement.
Thank you. 🌎🌱🌊🫎🐾
Description
The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) is an undeveloped 1.1 million-acre federal and state-recognized Wilderness Area. It is an expanse of lakes, rivers, and forests in the Superior National Forest, located along the Minnesota-Canada border, that has been protected by statute and international treaty for more than a century. This is the sixth most critical region in the lower 48 to protect for climate resiliency and contains 20% of all the freshwater in the entire National Forest System. The water in the Boundary Waters is so clean, you can dip your cup and drink straight from the lake.
Save the Boundary Waters is the locally-based, national campaign led by Northeastern Minnesotans for Wilderness based in Ely, Minnesota dedicated to permanently protecting America’s most beloved Wilderness Area – the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
