My Story…
This one's for Jen!
This May 3rd 2026, I will be running the Winnipeg Police Service Half Marathon at Assiniboine Park — but this race in particular means more to me than just 21.1 km.
This event raises funds for the Canadian Cancer Society, supporting research and programs that help individuals and their families who are facing cancer. This race has raised millions of dollars over the years and this year, I’m hoping to contribute what I can.
I will be running in honour of Jen Hilborn, who my family lost to cancer last year. Like so many families, ours has felt the impact of this disease and I hope to honour her memory with this race.
Every kilometre will be for her.
I was incredibly lucky to witness the love story between Jen and my cousin Josh. I remember thinking, who is this girl he’s introducing us to from England!? But seeing them interact, grow and build a family together, it just made sense.
Josh and Jen are a guiding example of what Mason and I hope to strive for in our lives together.
Jen was passionate. Jen was determined. Jen was creative. Jen was kind. Jen was welcoming. Jen was adventurous. Jen loved deeply. Jen fought hard.
Running in her memory is just a small way I hope to honour her and to send love to Josh and their kids- Lydia, Harry and Myles.
If you’re able, I would be incredibly grateful for your support — whether that’s a donation or simply cheering me on along the way.
