Welcome to Five Peaks Running Festival. Please read the following information carefully.
Location and logistics
Start locations:
58 km – Foxfield Oval, Maryvale Rd &, Sunset Strip, Athelstone
26 km – Cleland National Park
17 km – 198 Mt Barker Road, Leawood Gardens
10km – McElligotts Quarry
Finish location:
Main oval, Belair National Park
Parking and buses:
Belair National Park
If you are driving to Belair and carpooling to Foxfield Oval:
- We are using Des' buses.
- Be ready to board the bus 15 minutes before departure. If you miss the bus, you'll need to make your own arrangements to get to the start.
- Please keep the noise level down as the koalas will still be sleeping!
58km – 6.00 am starters (4.45 am bus)
- Head to the entrance of Belair National Park Holiday Park. You will park along the verge of this driveway at the directions of our marshals.
- You will then walk to bus stop 27A on Upper Sturt Road. Allow AT LEAST 10 minutes for this walk.
58km – 7.00 am and 8.00 am starters (5.45 am and 6.45 am buses)
- Park in the residential streets adjacent to the main gate on Upper Sturt Road.
- Walk to bus stop 27A on Upper Sturt Road. Allow enough time to walk to the bus stop.
26km (10.45 am bus), 17km (11.45 am bus) and 10km (12.30 pm bus)
- All parking is in Belair National Park at Gums Oval and Dianella Precinct Tennis Courts
- Parking is free – just let the rangers know you are here for Five Peaks. Our marshals will direct you to Gums Oval.
- Once Gums carparks are full, drivers will be diverted to the Dianella Precinct where you can park on the verges by the tennis courts.
- All buses will leave from Gums Oval.
- Please allow plenty of time to get from your car to the bus – if you are parked in Dianella, allow 15 minutes to walk back to the Gums.
For all volunteers and spectators driving to Belair
- Go to the Belair National Park main entrance. Let Park staff know you’re with TRSA, and you’ll get in for free.
- Limited car parking is available adjacent to Belair National Park Holiday Park and Escapegoat from 8.00 am.
- Follow the signs and directions of our volunteer marshals. There is plenty of parking within the park – allow time for a short walk (up to 1km) back to the Main Oval.
- DO NOT park on anything other than bitumen or gravel. If you park on any vegetation, you may be fined.
- Be respectful of other Belair National Park visitors and park requirements.
Foxfield Oval (58km start)
- Car parking is available in the car parking bays along Maryvale Road, adjacent to Foxfield Oval Reserve.
- Please do not park in the oval car park.
- Remember that most people are still asleep at this hour on a Sunday morning – keep the noise down so we don’t get complaints!
Cleland National Park (26km start):
- Car parking is available on the far (northern) side of the car park.
- Please do not park near the Wildlife Park entrance.
- Use the public toilets in the car park before walking to the start line.
Mt Barker Rd (17km start):
- There is absolutely NO car parking at this spot. It is “kiss and drop” and bus only.
- Marshals will ask any persons attempting to park here to move to a safer location as parking here poses a significant risk to both competitors, traffic and cyclists using the road.
- Walk past the aid station and through the gate on the course at the end of the driveway. Please do not mill around the gateway as runners from the longer courses will be travelling through this area.
McElligots Quarry Reserve (10km start):
- Please park on Carrick Hill Drive rather than the reserve carpark, which we are leaving for the public.
- Be aware of runners from long courses travelling through this area.

Race bibs:
All bibs are to be collected from your start location.
Check the entry list to make sure you are entered in the correct event and start time. If it is wrong, please see the Registration Manager at your correct start location 30 mins before the start time. Do not email or message us on Facebook.
We have a self-service bib pick-up system (allow 30 minutes prior to start time):
- Check your bib number from either the link below (normally live Friday pm before the event) or on the boards near the registration area. HINT: take a photo if you aren’t great at remembering numbers or are collecting multiple bibs.
- Get your bib from the baskets (self-service).
- If you can’t find your bib, then ask the rego team for help.
- DO NOT collect anyone’s bib who isn’t starting on the day.
- If you change your distance, DO NOT collect your original bib.
All collected bibs are considered starters. If they are not taken across the finish line, we will enact our search/rescue protocol.
If you have taken your bib but not started, you must inform us of your withdrawal by calling or texting the safety number on the back of your bib or informing the registration crew.
Your bib must be worn in front of you around your waist. It should be visible at all times and unobstructed as you travel over the start, finish and timing points to ensure accurate timing. HINT: Don’t cover your bib with your hand as you race to check your watch as you cross the finish line!
Bag drop:
You may leave your bags at our bag drop area at your own risk. We do not supervise bags.
We will take named and labelled drop bags to DS3 (Coach Road) and the finish line.
58 km runners:
Bring your drop bag(s) to the Foxfield Oval start area, clearly labelled with your name and drop location (Coach Road or Belair).
26/17/10 km runners:
If you would like a drop bag at the finish line, leave it under the sign inside the Main Pavilion at Belair before jumping on the bus. We will have a drop bag location at your start lines, but the less we have to carry back, the better!
The course
Routes and maps:
Course re-route on the 58 km course
There is a re-route through the Deep View Lookout area in Morialta. This will take the total distance from 58km to 59km.
Marking:
The courses will be well marked, but you should download the GPX files from the website.
Markings to look out for:
- Red arrows are used to indicate a turn or reinforce the course direction.
- Red-and-white ribbons 200-400m apart confirm that you’re on the right track.
- Wrong way signs where needed.
- There are various locations where courses converge or diverge.
Aid stations:
Tailwind is on offer at all of our aid stations. It is vegan and gluten-free. It does not contain soy, artificial colours or flavours and is non-GMO.
- The Tailwind at our aid stations is non-caffeinated.
- It will be mixed at a ratio of 200 calories per 700ml. This will allow you to consume some additional aid station food. Also, this mixed ratio prevents you from consuming too many calories per hour in hot weather conditions, when you are likely to drink more.

Cut-off times and pace:
A cut-off time of 3.45 pm for all events will be strictly enforced at McElligotts Quarry. Cut-offs exist for the safety of runners and volunteers. A TRSA official will stop runners who do not make their cut-off time. We will provide you with a lift to the finish line, or you can call someone else to pick you up.
The official course closure time is 5.30 pm. However, we will allow all runners who leave McElligotts Quarry by their cut-off, to record a finish time.

Safety and rules
** Mandatory gear:
Hydration – we are a cup-free event. You MUST carry your own drinking flask or cup as a minimum. (preferably a hydration vest). You must carry enough fluid to get from the start line to your first aid station. You should drink constantly and gradually in all weather conditions. here.
Head torch – if you are starting in the 58km 6.00 am wave, you must have a head torch or similar. Your phone light is not acceptable. Runners without appropriate lighting will not be permitted to start in this wave and will be held until 7.00 am.
Mobile phone – carry a phone. Our emergency number is on the back of your race bib: 0491 017 636.
Emergency Plus app – all runners should download the Emergency Plus app onto their mobile phones. This app will dial 000 for you at the tap of a button and provide you with a GPS location and address to give the operator.
Highly recommended gear:
- Basic first aid supplies eg thermal blanket, snakebite bandage, elastic bandage, band aids/blister pack.
- Appropriate layers and/or a rain jacket (depending on weather forecast).
- Hat and sunscreen.
Emergency details on the back of your bib:
If you’ve entered after the “name on bib” cut-off date and your name does not appear on your bib, please use the textas provided at the registration area to clearly write your name and your emergency contact person’s phone number on the back of your bib. This is for YOUR safety and could be very important in the event of a medical emergency.
Traffic control:
Sections of the course are on roads or cross intersections. This year we have increased traffic control, volunteer marshals and signage in appropriate places. Runners should be careful at all times and are ultimately responsible for their own safety.
There will be traffic control through the Norton Summit area of the course and at other major road crossings. Runners must run where directed by our marshals, through official crossing areas and coned sections of road.
Traffic will only be stopped through the Norton Summit area in places where runners cross the road. Traffic in this area will also be slowed.
In all other areas, our marshals DO NOT STOP VEHICLES. They have been instructed to stop runners as required. Their role is to get you safely through high-risk areas – please respect their decisions and follow their directions.
Sweepers:
Sweepers will start each event 5 minutes behind the official start time. They will aim to finish the course at the cut-off time or behind the last competitor (whichever is earlier).
Sweepers are an important safety measure to ensure that all runners/walkers are accounted for. They can also provide limited assistance* and advice to runners on the course.
*Sweepers are instructed to contact the safety phone if they encounter anyone in distress.
Advice on course:
Over the years, race entrants have been provided with well-meaning but not necessarily correct advice from bystanders and volunteers. You should only take advice about course issues from:
- TRSA Committee members - identified by pink TRSA vests
- Course sweepers
Withdrawals on course:
If you make the tough decision to pull out during your run, you MUST inform us immediately by calling or texting the safety phone number on the back of your bib. It is critical that you do this – lost competitors will result in us enacting our search and rescue protocols.
We will try to transport you back to the start line, but if this is not possible, you may need to organise your own transport from the course.
Directions to leave the course:
If you fall behind cut-off or a race official believes that you should not continue for another reason, we will direct you to leave the course. If you ignore our request and choose to continue running, you do so entirely at your own risk.
Helping injured or ill runners:
This event has some areas of poor phone reception and areas that are difficult to access by vehicle. If you come across a person who needs help, please stop and assist them.
For urgent medical assistance:
- dial 000 (or use the Emergency Plus app).
- then call the safety number on the back of your bib.
DO NOT MOVE FROM YOUR LOCATION ONCE YOU HAVE USED THE EMERGENCY PLUS APP, CALLED 000 OR CONTACTED US.
For non-urgent medical assistance, call the safety number on the back of your bib, approach the nearest drink station or inform a race marshal.
If you can’t get phone reception, you may need to send another runner to higher ground.
There are first aid kits at all drink stations.
Snakes:
Be aware of snakes on the course. It’s still warm enough for them to be out and about. Snakes will try to avoid you if they can – give them the space to do so. We recommend that all runners carry snakebite bandages.
Rubbish:
Do not drop your rubbish on the ground. There are no rubbish crews to clean up after you. Dropped rubbish poses a serious threat to native animals and livestock. Please - leave no trace other than your footsteps.
** Insurance:
A reminder that your entry fees do not cover your personal insurance. It is up to you to ensure that you have adequate insurance in place should you suffer a medical episode or emergency.
Clean footwear:
As part of our permit, the Department of Environment and Water requires you to have clean footwear and avoid “where possible, traversing muddy ground where soil may accumulate on shoes.” For the first part, please make sure your shoes are clean when you arrive at your start line and we’ll provide disinfectant for use as needed. We’ll leave it up to you to decide what the rest of it looks like.
After your race
Results and presentations:
Your results are available immediately after you complete your race. Check out the live scoring.
Finisher medals will be awarded to 58 km runners as they cross the finish line.
Staggered presentations to event winners will be held shortly after the arrival of the 3rd-placed male & female runners in each event. This is normally from around 2.45-3.00 pm onwards.
Random draw:
Who doesn’t love winning prizes? Our supporters have generously donated some fantastic trail running gear and vouchers for the TRSA Members’ random prize draw which will follow the presentations. This will take place around 3:30 pm.
You must be present at the random draw, a volunteer, or still on course to claim a prize.
If you’ve forgotten to sign up for membership this year, make sure you get onto it now.
Refreshments:
After crossing the finishing line, hang around and enjoy the post-race refreshments (brownies YEESSS!) We’ll provide the usual assortment plus you can purchase hot food and recovery drinks from Nomad Runner Snack and hot drinks and snacks from The Coffee Run.
Food will be available from around midday until sold out.
Photos and video:
Photos and video will be uploaded to our Facebook page, normally within two days of our events (and often much sooner).
Protests and results queries:
- Provisional results: Please check your time as soon as you finish.
- How to protest: Any protests regarding the results or a breach of race rules should be made to the event Referee at the registration tent before the presentations. Please bring your watch/phone with your Strava or equivalent data. Runners who are the subject of a protest may also need to show their run data.
- Time limit: Results are considered final by 5:00 pm Wednesday after the event. All queries should be submitted before this time. Please complete and submit the Protest/Query Form.
Thank you and wrap-up
