SBM Stride for Science

The 2026 Run/Walk is a timed 5K along Lake Michigan, starting and ending in Grant Park, just a short 10-minute walk from the Hilton Chicago. Runners and walkers will experience a scenic route with a Lake Michigan sunrise on one side and landmarks like the Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, and Soldier Field on the other. Both runners and walkers are encouraged to sign up! A shorter route option will be marked at the Adler Planetarium for a one-mile loop.

The Stride for Science Run/Walk starts promptly at 6:30 a.m.!

Volunteering is reserved to members of SBM's Physical Activity SIG who co-organize the Stride for Science Run/Walk

Provide directions for participants, manage water stations along route, lead the warm-up exercises, cheer on participants at the start/finish line, and take photos of the event.

Serve as the lead pacer for the runners or walkers, the "middle of the pack" pacer, or the caboose pacer responsible for ensuring all participants have completed the race.

Run/Walk Participant Walk-Over

All run/walk participants should meet in the Hilton Chicago lobby foyer at 5:50 a.m. and check-in with SBM staff on-site. Staff will lead the walkover to Grant Park at 6 a.m. sharp.

Run/Walk Volunteer Walk-Over

All run/walk volunteers should meet in the Hilton Chicago lobby foyer at 5:40 a.m. and check-in with Physical Activity SIG outgoing chair, Rodney Joseph. Rodney will lead the volunteer walkover to Grant Park at 5:45 am.

Awards will be handed out to the top three overall male and female participants at the Presidential Keynote & Awards Ceremony on Thursday, April 23 at 4-4:50 p.m.
